Nitric Acid

Description

Nitric acid is a highly corrosive mineral acid. The pure compound is colorless, but older samples tend to acquire a yellow cast due to decomposition into oxides of nitrogen and water.

Nitric Acid Uses

Nitric acid is often used as a pigment in inks and dyes, but it has many other industrial, and even pharmaceutical uses, including:

  • Fertilizers
  • Furniture coatings
  • Cleaning agents for metals
  • Drug testing
  • Medicines
